| Lillington, Harnett County's seat of government, is nestled on the banks of the scenic Cape Fear River. Tree-lined streets, combined with quiet, spacious neighborhoods, characterize this town of approximately 3, 600 residents. Named for General Alexander Lillington, a revolutionary war hero, Lillington is fortunate to have a number of active civic and service clubs which constantly strive to improve the quality of life for all citizens. Each month, the Lillington Improvement Council brings together representatives of all clubs and organizations in the town to coordinate activities. News of local activities and events are reported in the Harnett County News, a weekly newspaper. | |
| Because of its mild climate, outdoor activities are provided year round with events for all ages. As one may expect in the heart of golf country, two fine 18-hole golf courses are available to local residents at Keith Hills Country Club and Pine Burr Golf Course. ......Located just outside of town is the unspoiled, natural beauty of Raven Rock State Park, a 3,000 acre botanical wonderland. A 125-foot granite cliff, from which the park gets its name, rises above the Cape Fear River. More than 15 miles of hiking trails can be found along the north side of the river. The park offers fishing, family camping, group camping, picnicking and a canoe trail runs through the park down the Cape Fear River. | ![]() |
Lillington has gained a reputation in recent years for its celebration of America's
birthday on July 4th. Harnett Festival In The Park, Inc. provides an old-fashioned
festival of crafts, entertainment, food, children's games and activities, exhibits, and
one of the largest and most exciting fireworks displays in the entire state. |
